Integrating Technology
Many teachers find it difficult to integrate technology into lessons. I teach 3rd-8th grade gifted/talented students, and they just finished a layered unit as developed by Kathie Nunley. These units afford the teacher an opportunity to differentiate lessons, students have a chance to use various technological instruments and students have a chance to choose which assignments they want to complete. If anyone has used these units, please share your experience, or if you have not used one, I'll be glad to share information with you.

Mrs. Gordon- Love your blog. Nice pics of your family. I wish I had you as my teacher in 3rd-8th grade. Not that I am gifted or talented but I like the way you teach. When I get my classroom, I will definately integrate technology in my lessons.

I really enjoyed looking at your blog. For you topic,I am also a gifted teacher and I have found out that out students enjoy technolgy. I have also included united streaming on my blog that I use when introducing new topics to my students.

Hello Angie,
I can see that you are technology savvy, I wish I were. I really like your slide show. How did you do it?
Your question as to whether I have used any of Katie Nunley units, no I have not, as of yet. Technology is a wonderful and confusing thing for me. I remember a time when I refused to touch a key board,I was terrified of the thing. Now, I cannot seem to tear myself away from the computer. I integrate technology into my lessons daily. The children love to complete tasks on the computer, especially the laptops; they fight over who gets to used them.
Great blog,
Minnie
I am learning how to use this piece of technology and my original message posted before I could make needed corrections. I am resubmitting my original message with the corrections. Please see below:
I am currently the counselor working with advanced and gifted students at our middle school. I am not familiar with the term layered units but our curriculum is student centered and engages students in active learning. Technology is a major part of our curriculum and we encourage students to actively use technology to demonstrate their creativity and stimulate learning.
I am pleased to read that you are differentiating your lessons and your students are given a choice which assignments they would like to complete.
This approach to learning is right on target with current educational trends and best practices. I also want to encourage you to integrate technology as much as possible within your daily planning. The use of technology is no longer an option in delivering education it is becoming an essential piece of our educational institutions and classrooms.
I visited Dr. Kathie Nunley's web page and learned more about her lesson plans. I viewed the middle and high school lesson plan for computer multimedia and animation technology. I thought the lesson plan was well designed and convenient for any teacher to print and use immediately. The assignment also included a grading rubric. Please visit http://help4teachers.com/samples2.htm for additional samples.
You have a beautiful family, great pictures.
Angie,
You should be voted teacher of the year in your district.
There is so much creativity and ingenuity that you put into your lessons. Presently, I am taking a course in Brain-Based Leadership and the authors (Black & Gergersen, 2003; Pink, 2005; and so on) are urging educators to incorporate more R-Directed teaching and learning into their lessons. Seeing what you do and hearing your success stories, make my Brain Based leadership class more relevant. Thanks, for the inspiration! (Mac)
Hi Angela,
Thanks for the weblink to Dr. Katie Nunley's work on interactive learning.
I will begin reviewing that link in a few minutes from now. Please note that I will be using much of your ideas to complete a major assignment for my Brain-Based Leadership class. I am really learning alot about the powers of technology and how it can revolutionize brain barriers.
Definitely, I am all for that! Based on what I am learning from Piroska, Clement, and Angela's blog, interactive technology is making in-roads how students perceive and respond to various facets of learning.
See if I had not signed up for this class, I would still be in the dark> (Lol).
Before my doctoral work ends, I must come and visit your classroom. How does one go about doing this? I want to learn a few ideas to take back with me to the Bahamas ( like a few days, teacher exchange)kind of thing. LOl
This is so cool!!! Great family photos too. Thanks Mac
Integrating technology into the classroom is a smart move for all teachers. It engages students in the learning problems in ways traditional teaching can't. Good blog!
